How to Make a Halloween Party at Home
Many families find it really tricky to keep things colorful and exciting for kids at home especially for halloween. During the pre-pandemic years we would probably have events for kids roaming around in malls, and in their villages and subdivisions – while they wear costumes – these days it is still recommended to stay at home.
I remembered a house party which I got to attend and shoot in Singapore some years back, which up to this date still brings me loads of fun and good memories. What’s so cool about this party is, it’s a birthday celebration for a little girl named Ashley, who was turning three at that time, and her parents decorated their home with halloween themed party favors.
I was told they were also the ones who baked most if not all of the desserts that you are about to see. And some of the baked goodies, came to be because they watched some videos on YouTube for inspiration. It turned out to be super cute and definitely memorable!
Ashley’s relatives and friends came in costume! But for the privacy of the their family, and invited guests, there will be no people photos for this post. 🙂 Let’s just say I spent the night with some of these characters: I saw fairies, zombies, maidens, queens and princesses, cute devils, witches, spiders, vampires, minions, princesses, more cute devils, tiny fire truck drivers, and cute bats.
I hope these photos will serve as an inspiration for DIY parties-at-home, so that kids will always have plenty of fun memories to collect and cherish! Thanks for reading!

Tips and recommendations for a DIY Halloween Party from Home:
- Look for inspirations for decorations! Use YouTube, Pinterest and Instagram, if you are the DIY type, then put your crafting hat on! For a start, you can do cut outs of pumpkins, bats, spiders and eyeballs to decorate the wall with. But of course, if you would like to print and cut out designs instead, try out using www.canva.com 🙂 It’s a fantastic way to gain access to free graphic elements contributed by Canva Creatives around the world! 🙂
- But if you are the add-to-cart type, you can get yourself more ideas by looking at ready-made-items on shopping apps like Lazada and Shopee!
- Choose colors that remind you of halloween. Normally we see orange, greys, blacks and yellows because of ‘pumpkins’ being a popular icon for halloween celebrations. But, other vibrant colors can work out too. (Have you seen the movie Coco?) You can go for scary, but, to me…..cute is… King! hehe! (that’s just my preference!).
- Food! Make it fun! just like the photos above, you can make (or order!) cupcakes and pastries that are a feast for the eyes as well. It might also be a good idea to have the children involved in decorating them! 🙂 You can even make it into an activity or contest among family members!
- Creating a spot that looks like your stage or activity area will definitely help to raise the party atmosphere in your home. It makes the family members feel that they have entered a ‘party zone’. Don’t forget to take photos! You can come in costume tooo—- even if you’re just at home, because… heheheh good memories!!!
- Some families prefer to have online zoom activities with other families, so that the kids can stay connected with their friends. But, whether you’re on zoom with other people or simply celebrating at home, the most important thing is to enjoy the quality time! 🙂 Don’t be stressed setting up, just enjoy the process! Because… the journey is your reward! woohooo!
